Broken Smile

by Tainted Butterfly   May 2, 2005

Sometimes I sit here
in the darkness.
I lie awake
in the middle of the night
surrounded
by the loneliness
of my broken heart.
Flooded with memories of yesterdays long gone
but always remembered.
And I think of the times
I smiled
I dreamed
I hoped
I aspired to be
something greater
Than I was ever to become.

I sit here now in this darkness
With my broken smile.
I sit here in the depths of despair
Long dead and buried
In a lonely grave.
A grave that I can see threw
Where I see you
Just as broken as I am.

I know that dawn will shine
it's light again.
Another day will pass
without you.
Some days I never think of you
Others I am flooded
with the thoughts
So much that I drown.
I don't try to swim above them
I just drown into the depths
Of my broken world.
My broken smile.

There are days when the hate
is greater than the love I once had.
There are days when the hurt
is more than I can bare.
There are days when the heart
yearns to speak.
There are days it is better
to be silent and stay in the darkness.

There are days my broken smile emerges long enough
to cry
to remember
that when I think of you
I will always be broken.
As broken as dreams
shattered
by the regrets of yesterday.
As broken as the heart
that holds visions of
memories never to pass again.
As broken as a smile
that lost it's reasons
to be.

**for the ones who broke my smile.

This poem is excellent. Remarkable imagery, and amazing word usage. I really loved it. Truly a masterpiece, as are most of your writings. Can't express how much I love the way you write...
