Gone

Here I am crying,
Knowing I was to late,
I didn't get to tell you,
That you were my bestest mate,

You use to make me laugh,
At the things that you said,
They were pretty silly,
And made my face turn bright red,

You even got us into trouble,
But I was laughing soon,
You were making funny faces,
From the other side of the room,

I remember you were my reading partner,
And you fogged your reading glasses up for fun,
You pretended you couldn't see me,
And acted like you were dumb,

We had so much fun that year,
But then it all came to an end,
We gave each other gifts,
And promised we would be forever friends,

Then at the end of grade six,
Everything changed,
We went to different schools,
And then nothing was the same,

I rarely saw you after that,
But I’d always give you a call,
We would talk for hours,
About nothing much at all,

But the months went by,
And the calls began to stop,
Sometimes we would call,
But mostly we did not,

It went through to year eight,
But one day I cried,
The ‘number 1 friend’ pen you gave me,
Was destroyed by the guys,

Which tears fell,
Onto the pen in my hand,
The guys told me to get a grip,
But they didn’t understand,

They destroyed apart of me,
Because the pen was from you,
It was something special,
Which only I knew,

Then at the end of last year,
You said you were moving away,
I was shocked,
Because you were moving by plane,

I hung up the phone in tears,
Because you were leaving me,
Even though you did say you would call,
Just before you leaved,

I never received that call,
And now I miss you so,
You are miles away,
Yet I won’t let you go,

You were my best friend; my mate,
But now you are gone,
Please don’t forget me,
I don’t want to be torn.
