The Old Man who "Speaks" of Treason

by Ed   May 4, 2005

The town of Content is small and punitive
Everyone knows everyone and knows nothing at the same time.

The town honors the oranges of the valley.
they produce the food that nourishes the young,
and rippens the old.

Families respect the crop,
and sacerfice their share once a year.

The old man bellows at this request,
and honors the grapes of the harvest instead.
This year brings downfall as sacrifices are tarnished.

The town rages in fury,
they burn his home and slaughter his crops without hesitation.
the old man stands tall and smiles at the insolence humans.

They turn to face him and ask why he has betrayed them?
The old Man smiles once and and turns to speak...
"I have never cared for oranges much"
thus the town collapses in silence.
