Soldiers Notes

by Jacklyn   May 4, 2005

The soldier got his turn,
To email his family at home,
To say hi to his wife,
And his hope to never say good-bye.

“Greetings to my beautiful wife,
I wish I could say that I am all right.
I have not been injured,
I am still alive,

But my hope is beginning to dry.
The reality of war has finally sunken inside,
So many I have loved, died fighting for life.
But I promise to return, travel back to you across the world.

How’s the baby? It was due last month,
Wish I could have been there to welcome her to this world,
Tell her daddy is fighting for her,
His beautiful princess he will always love!

My time is almost up,
The next soldier can take his turn to write home,
I wish I could say more,
I love you and see you soon! March 4th 2005”

The soldier got his turn,
To email his family at home,
To say hi to his wife,
And his hope to never say good-bye.

“Greetings to my beautiful wife,
Glad to hear that things at home are sweet and smooth,
I miss you, like a wolf misses the moon,
Like a rose without it’s water.

Hungry for your sweet love,
Thirsty for home, and no gushing blood,
Running without energy, needing your touch,
Glad to hear about the baby,

Glad to hear all this you can handle.
Elizabeth, a beautiful name,
Named after your mom, how sweet!
She’ll grow up with your pure beauty.

Time to leave; it’s almost time for duty,
Love you again; you’re the light I miss,
You are always missed and close to my heart,
And I’ll come home to be by your side, May 20th 2005.”

The soldier got his turn,
To email his family at home,
To say hi to his wife,
And his hope to never say good-bye.

“Greetings to my beautiful wife,
Say hi to Elizabeth,
Make her smile and giggle,
Make her happy for her daddy!

I get to return home within a month,
I got my letter to be sent home,
I have full filled my duty and oath,
And now I get to fly home.

I promised I would survive,
So far no wound that’s made me die,
I come home to my beautiful wife,
You no longer have to worry every night.

This next month will slowly creep by,
Because all I will think about when I have time,
Ending this war in my life,
I no longer have to see my soldiers die in my eyes.

Pray every single night,
For my return like you have always asked God,
But add all the soldiers life’s that also fight,
Pray for soldiers on both sides,

Because they all fight and die,
They all believe in something in their life,
They all just may disagree,
But all their lives don’t deserve to be burried,

We shouldn’t wish for the other end,
To lose lives and battle again,
We should wish for peace and life,
But again I have to say good-bye,
Until next month I’ll see you soon, June 2005,”

This soldier had lost his life,
Saving countless in a fight,
His daughter and his wife,
Only have Soldier Notes remaining of his life.

This is so well written and constructed my friend. Very saddening - I can personally relate because my brother is a in afghanistan for the New zealand army - though it isn't the same thing, i could feel the pain of losing someone in this poem. I loved it - brought a tear to my eye // <3

    Luff yah.
