The Call of the Hopeful Heart

by ..::.alreadyGoNe..::.   May 5, 2005

She scraped up her courage
and picked up the phone
dialed his numbers
and calmed her fluttering heart

he answered and she asked
there was silence on the other end
for quite some time
just her breathing for company

she waited for an answer
anxiety like acid in her stomach
please say yes she whispered
'just friends'

he said
but she didn't let it get her down
at least he thought about it
she smiled
said goodbye
and hung up

she came to school the next morning
a smile lighting up her face
other people were thrown off

is this how you were supposed to be?
was it an act
in fact it wasn't
just the sweet thought in her mind
that he thought about it

it made all the difference
it was a brave thing to do
to call the person you've fretted over for so long
and ask them out

she looks so stunning
so beautiful
her skin glowing
she dances
and laughs

her teeth shining and glittering
it seems it is frozen there
that wide grin
she has a tough heart
a heart that looks on the brighter sides of things

instead of dying in pain
of being rejected
these are the most precious
of people on earth
