The cold wind blew,
As yet again, the April sun
Kissed my skin.
A child’s laughter
Filled my head,
As I thought to the future
I thought we had.
Your face haunted
The dreams I kept,
Of a future that could only
Be for us to have.
I thought of a classic,
Simple white wedding,
With smiling,
Crying faces,
Happy to know I found true love
In the wake of heartbreak.
I pictured a little girl,
With curly blonde hair,
And your perfect smile,
Laughing and playing
Beneath a shady lawn.
I imagined you,
wrapping your arms
Around me, kissing my neck,
In the same weak spot
You found so long ago.
I saw our future,
Imperfect and weak at times,
Yet perfectly strong as a whole;
Then watched as it faded to a memory,
Of what our love could’ve been,
If you didn’t give up
And walk away.
