Standing Out

I want to be
Different from you
To stand out in crowds
To have the world see me
For the person I am

Suicide is different,
But too many choose that path
Cutting doesn’t seem as normal,
Yet tons crave the wicked sting

I don’t want labels,
I’m not depressed,
And emo’s not my style;
I choose my paths
To delve into the darkest places
And return again
To the brightest light

I could kill myself tonight
Trace a razor through every vein,
I could swallow my prescription drugs
And make my doctor think again
Before she hands it out
So willingly to me

I could let my eyes
Lie cold inside
Of a body not worth saving,
I could take my life
In spite of love,
But, instead, I choose to hold

Hold on to all I have
To the fact that I’ll stand out
By showing strength
Once and for all
And proving my lack of worthlessness
