If Only I

by Victoria   May 6, 2005

IF ONLY I WOULD SPARKLE,
LIKE A PEARL BELOW THE SEA,
YOU WOULD TREASURE ALL MY BEAUTY,
FROM NOW TO ETERNITY.

YOU WOULDN'T DISAPPROVE ME,
IN ANY SINGLE WAY,
AS LONG AS I HAD ELEGANCE,
YOU WOULD REMAIN AND STAY.

BUT I AM NOT THE PEARL,
INSIDE THE PALM OF YOUR HAND,
I AM A MERE SHELL,
ENCRUSTED BENEATH THE SAND.
