Burn

by LuAnnLy18   May 7, 2005

As my feet pound against the floor,
The perfectly finished floor.
It glistens up at me, daring me to take one more step.
I see myself in the floor, and I see my pain.
My muscles cry out for peace, I feel that burn.

As my arms pull through the water,
The beautifully clear water.
The water feels like sludge, teasing me to take one more stroke.
I hear the rhythm of my breathing, and I hear my pain.
My lungs cry out for oxygen, I feel that burn.

As my body struggles with my mind,
A battle between the mental and the physical.
My body begs me for rest, but my mind won't let me stop.
I feel the aches and pains, and I understand my pain.
My heart cries out for perfection, and I feel that burn.

Pain is only temporary, but pride is forever.
There is no cure for the heartbreak of defeat.
But sweet victory is the reason for all my pain,
And that'll calm that burn.
