An Entire Year Ago

It was an entire year ago
That she came to live with me
I'm the only friend she's ever had
As far as I can see

It's nice to know that she needs me
To help her clean her home and make her bed
Make sure she gets her exercise
And to see to it that she gets fed

However it's not just her who needs me
I admit I often need her too
She keeps my secrets and doesn't laugh
Like some other friends would do

Her nickname is Godzilla
I never understood exactly why
She might have gotten excited at times
But she wouldn't hurt a fly

She used to be the quickest of her kind
Although now she's kind of slow
Completely bald and a little bit blind
Her hearing may be soon to go

Unfortunately she's getting old now
Im afraid her life may soon come to an end
To everyone else she may be just a hamster
But to me, that hamster is my best friend
