Like Before {draft}

We met when we were in our teens,
Both of us were shy at the start.
In no time at all we were friends.
Joined together like two pieces of a broken heart.

We were together all the time.
There wasn’t a weekend we weren’t together.
Each were filled with smiles and laughter.
It seemed like we were made for each other.

Our similarities were great
And our differences were few.
We both loved stars and photography.
Oh, how our friendship grew!

Great friends for about ten months.
That is when things started going wrong.
Hurtful things said and then
Our great friendship was gone.

It has been five years now,
Since our friendship vanished.
We both went on with our lives.
Although neither of us went unpunished.

Regret is apparent,
When you look into our eyes.
We hate our teen years,
Our former actions we despise.

We can’t look at ourselves in the mirror,
We just imagine what could have been.
It won’t go back like it was before
Oh, to be like we were then!
