What Do you expect?

by Lost but Smiling   May 14, 2005

Here I am once again,
confused with only my friends to turn to.
I remember the days,
when you would hug me and say,
I'm proud of you,
I couldn't ask for a better kid.

But now that I'm here,
Now that I'm older,
What do you expect?
I work my ass off for you,
I worry because of you.
I'm afraid that I won't ever be good enough.
So please tell me,
what do you expect?

I'm not a little kid,
Are you sure you are still proud of me?
If you knew the things I had done
The way I am feeling...
I would probably be disowned.
But you don't know any of this,
so you still smile and say:
"I'm so proud of you."
How can that be,
when everything I do is still never to your expectations?
You still smile and say,
You love me.

But now that I'm here,
Now that I'm older,
What do you expect?
I work my ass off for you,
I worry because of you.
I'm afraid that I won't ever be good enough.
So please tell me,
what do you expect?

Here I am once again,
confused with only my friends to turn to.
