With Open Eyes

by Peter Williams   May 22, 2005

The shadow......
It haunts me.
The darkness......
It comforts me.
Alone with my thoughts,
My maddening thoughts.
The light......
I fear it.
The moon......
It calls to me.
The sun......
It blinds me.
Such are things......
Things that are,
Things that were,
Things that will be.
Past,
Present,
Future.
The starlight......
It caresses me.
The night sky......
It possesses me.
The sunrise......
Making the night fade.
The oak tree......
In the comfort of its shade.
This world,
This life......
There are times when I forget its beauty,
When I forget its magic.
... But it's always there.
The magic has not faded.
The beauty is there for all to see,
It is you who must be ready to see it.
To look at life with quiet "awe",
To hold you so tight in my arms.
That would be the day......
The day I would die......
So peaceful,
So relaxed.
Should a tear run down my cheek,
You wouldn't know the reason for which I weep.
There are things in this life that I take for granted......
The world is beautiful.
Life is good.
All you have to do......
Is just open your eyes and look around.
There is beauty in this world,
There is magic.
Just open your eyes.
Just open your heart,
And let your soul free.
You can see the world for what it really is,
But first......
You must open your eyes.
