The Mask

by Gabby   Oct 3, 2003

You put it on everyday
Hoping no one will see through
Sometimes wishing they would go away,
Wanting some down time to just you.

It's like a wall put aroung your face.
You want them to see it instead
Wishing you could find your place
Knowing you feel dead.

Your true self is tucked away
Beyond that great big smile.
Your life is quickly fading away
As you become this great big tile.

A tile hung upon a wall
For everyone to see
As if it showed truth at all
You put it on for others and let them be

One time you could not put it on
I saw it quite simple and clear.
This mask of yours had weighed a ton,
Until you showed no fear.

You recognized I liked you for you,
And not this mask of yours.
Now, I will take mine off too
As we open up new doors.

One day soon this world will see,
Just how many masks there are
One by one taking them off
That one day they will go far.

This is for my special someone. He is like this, but I know the real him. This poem, if you don't understand, just means that almost everybody (not everyone but a lot) tend to be the way others want them to be. Everyone wanted him to be preppy and popular, and so he was. I think that was his mask b/c he hid his true self from others.
