Scattered shards of heart

by confusion   May 23, 2005

Like a glass jarred candle
flickering against the winds
my heart has burnt so slowly
left with nothing but ash within

the glass body still remains
its thin walls left fragile alone
you can see from fair hair line cracks
where the growing ache is shown

you can see where he wick used to be
once so strongly glowing with light
its rays filled darkened corners
through each bitterly chilling night

faint wax marks on the walls
of this fragile candle jar
still show in the sun when it shines
as it was whole in a time, so far

but that sun doesn't shine too often
instead the storm clouds hover and glare
stopping hope of better times glist'ning
leaving this jar so empty, so bare

left with nothing but slight sobs
with dark sighs and thunder crashes
stood alone on a cold window sill
slowly but surely this glass jar smashes

first just a crack, then another
result in a break as the cracks grew and grew
like this jar, my heart lies in pieces
still, these pieces will always love you
