He told her not to worry
he held her and she begged for him to never let go
he told her he'd be back before she even missed him
she said, "I miss you already you know"
He was just eighteen
said he was ready to fight
the next morning he was leaving
and this was their last night
he held her tight in his arms
and she cried so many tears
I love you so much he said
and I'll always be here to chase your fears
they fell asleep in each others arms
on the beach underneath the stars they made love that night
she cried herself to sleep
he held her, trying to make things alright
he woke up really early
leaving her a ring and a note
he kissed the top of her head
promise you'll never forget me is what he wrote
she woke up long after he had gone
she read the note and it broke her heart
her tears came down like rain
with him gone her whole world fell apart
she waited and waited
always crying herself to sleep
she never broke her promise
her heart was his to keep
then she found out
that because of their last night
