I dreamt tomorrow had a prettier face

by Flying With Broken Wings   May 24, 2005

Her wavy dirty blonde hair fell to the middle of her small back
The summer sun brought out the natural highlighting of her locks
Her kind blue eyes have an essence of innocence
The freckles on her cheeks made her smile radiate life

She wore broomstick skirts
Big bulky belts
Jewelry made of topaz and jade
Colorful tops that didn’t necessarily match
But that’s what made her beautiful

She climbed trees
And would sit up there all day
Listening to the old Beatles and Bob Dylan albums
Writing poetry about life and love
Painting her toenails white with black peace signs.
Drinking green tea
Gazing upon the wonder that is our earth
Taking in every facet of nature

Strolling around the park barefoot
Laying in the grass
Watching as the clouds roll on by
Falling asleep under the stars
Dancing around the bonfire on the beach
Living life to the fullest

She’s lost herself
She walks down the streets and hangs her head in frustration
Her cavernous blue eyes had the look of someone who had seen too much too fast
She no longer climbs trees to listen to Bob Dylan and The Beatles
She drinks coffee instead of green tea
Her nails are painted black
Her poetry is about fatality and the end of everything
While lying on the grass on a warm spring afternoon used to be a ritual
She now smokes weed in the back of the school parking lot

She has lost herself
She has lost reason
She has lost sense
She has lost life
She has lost love
She has lost her mind

And when you’ve given it all
Getting it back is going to be hard
But when she climbed that tree for the last time
And knew every word to The White Album
She reached out to pick the flower at the edge of the branch
She fell
And falling still
