Marvelously amused

by Sabine Taylor   May 27, 2005

In a distinguished fashion
I glance over at you
Fix your eyes for a second or two
When my faces turns around
Again in such way
I learned to play
To be marvellously amused

In such acquaintance
I am quickly bored
After a couple of minutes
Conversation yet seems spiritless at all
Beholding around in that drawing room
Nicely decorated, but it’s charm so cold

The last sip of wine
Made me think about
How to deal
With this group of people
I am yet disgusted with
And this evening’s society
Is like an insufferable summer heat
Making me tired and shirty
At the same time

This poem is about the boring every-day-the-same-evening-acquaintances of the affluent women in the beginning of the 19. century, but especially this poem is dedicated to Anne Elliot, Jane Austen's heroine in the same called novel.
