Claires Dance

by Mark   May 31, 2005

The hours ticking by, the night being slowly trimmed,
The royalty over, the elegance now dimmed.
The numbers depleted, the open ocean our next destination,
The after party approaches, your rules causing our partial separation.

The yacht begins its journey forward through the harbour,
Just for tonight I promise, my feelings for you I will harbor.
A melody fills the air, ensuring all spirits are at a high,
Champagne flowing into our glasses under the starry night sky.

We raise our glasses up, your gorgeous smile causing my heart to melt.
We drink to the toast, FRIENDS!, because that’s just how you felt.
I find myself a corner, and alone there I shall stand,
Allowing you to make the most of this night just so grand.

Perched against the rails, the uncaring ocean rushing below
Across the way I see you dancing, surrounded by an angelic glow.
I squeeze my eyes shut knowing for you, I am doing it right,
But these cravings within my heart I must continue to fight.

The full moon floating above us, tonight you are clearly the victor
You move towards me, excitedly I smile and then you ask, “Please take this picture”.
Always willing, I admire your grace through the lens,
The face in the photo more precious than any Mercedes benz.

Gratefully you prance away, your mannerisms filled with such bliss,
Playing my role I have to be satisfied, but how I crave just one single kiss!
Your lips shinning brightly, so innocent, soft and desirable,
But to make that move on this night, it just would not be honorable.

I take my place, leaning over as we race through the water,
Keeping back the passion, unsure how much longer I can take this slaughter.
Arriving on the shore, the finale just around the bend,
Not so soon will my hearts pain come to an end.

The hours ticked by, the day totally trimmed,
The royalty long over, the elegance completely dimmed.
At home now I hear you say, “what a great night! What a great friend!”
The night now a magnificent memory, unlike my true inner trend.
