Open eyes (a true story)

by mayme   Jun 1, 2005

I had walked the same path to my house for many years. The same trees, birds, insects. Nothing ever changed. Until one afternoon, I arrived home to realize I had forgotten my keys and of course no one was home. I decided to sit down at our red picnic table, that was still wet from a previous rain, and admire the beauty of what I had ignored all of these years. The amazing and mysterious beauty of nature.
Sun rays highlighted the red, orange, and green leaves as they gracefully floated to their own special resting place on the already smothered ground below. Birds sang secret messages as they flew tree to tree preparing for a long flight south.
I shivered as the cool wind blew through the near bare limbs of trees my eyes had passed over for many years. Branches swayed and danced to nature’s ballet. Two mischievous squirrels played hide and seek under a near Dogwood before disappearing into the dense woods. As I walked into my home I felt a small sprinkle on my face. Another fall rain was sure to come. I couldn't help but wonder how a sight so unique and innocent was so easily ignored.

    Beautiful...described so vividly.
So many of us do lack to see the more diminutive attractions in life, I am very guilty as well. But it's better that you caught the image than to never have experienced. =)
Keep up the great work. 5/5

    Love, Heather.
