When I grow up I want to be a doctor, a lawyer, a fire fighter, a police officer
To save lives, defend the innocent, to be a hero, to put away the bad people
Ringing in our ears are the big hopes & dreams we once had when we were children
It did’t matter how long it would take
what accomplishments you had to make,
because in our little minds any task large or small was a piece of cake
We were all once dreamers trying to draw out our future in crayon, crossing out any mistakes and making sure to color in between the lines
Always trying to figure out where we fit in,
Making mistakes with a slight grin
So much smarter when we were children
Then you grow up one day & things change in all kind of ways
To live the life you live you making all types of excuses...
Now, to be a doctor- u don’t have the stomach
a lawyer- too many years of studying a firefighter- you afraid of heights
a police officer- is now your worst enemy
Starting at the age of 13 your poking, but not to save lives
You looking for a lawyer not to be your mentor, but to get you back on the streets so you can settle the score
&
Cops (5-0 as you now call them) know your face, & are constantly after you like a cat and mouse chase
When do u realize you the mouse and eventually will be trapped
Now u singing that jail bird song,
If u had only known, you would have never done wrong
Telling others they can change, but for you it’s too late,
every second you waste is another chance you had to take
The only thing ringing in your ear now is the sound of
your cell block opening and closing
In a matter of seconds you went from dealing to waiting for your cards to be dealt
Hanging in the balance like a puppet on a shelf,
like a puppet hanging from a shelf
You have grown physically, and hard core emotionally,
and
steady wishing you grew the right way mentally
Now all the hopes and dreams that you had are left as a fairy tale entitled,
Once Upon a Time In My Childhood!!!
