This is Us

by Megan   Jun 4, 2005

You hold me in your arms
And gaze into my eyes
Like you can see inside
See my heart, my soul
With my head against your chest
I can feel your heartbeat
Steady in my ear
It comforts me, I'm safe
This feeling comes over me
I want to laugh and cry
I look at you and smile
You do too, it's foreign to us
No one could understand
What grows in us
As we move back and forth
To some country songs
Or when we talk on the phone
For hours straight
With nothing at all to say
It's the little things that count
Like when you kiss my forehead
Or rub your stubble over my neck
Or throw me over your shoulders
Pretending I'm injured
Yelling "Fire!" because it's funny
It's running backwards in front of me
To help me get up the hill
When I'm dead tired
It's rushing to get to the door first
Then closing it on me
It's things like these
That make me realize
Our inside jokes and little quirks
Are what make us special
We wouldn't be the same apart
You're my other half
You are my world
