My Dying Rose

by Debra   Jun 4, 2005

I once saw you as a beautiful rose
Bright and lush
Beauty in every eye
Brilliant color
Fragrant scent
A thing of purity in a world of lies

But as the days passed
You started to wither away
Petals dropping
Leaves curling brown
No longer a thing of admiration

Your time had ended
And with your sharp thorns protruding
I threw you away
No longer enjoying your presence

A stab of pain
Left blood trickling down my wrist
The same color that your petals had been
A reminder of what you once were
But were never destined to be
