Broken sneakers

See that smile that she sports
Feel the fear that she hides
Why is she running
What keeps her so scared

Watch as she is let down
Listen to that shatter
Look at the empty soul

Her eyes so deep
Observe the heart skip a beat
She holds her breath
And stands up once again

Tightens her shoes
And off she runs
Far from her uncertainties
And the solitude

Listen to the laugh
Artificial as can be
This girl is trapped in herself
And battles to escape

She can try to fool herself
But the trick has worn off
There she sits with her enemy
Glances at the mirror, only to see her face

The act she puts on for everyone
Is just another lie she sets on herself
It is damaging her
But she will not allow you to see inside

For if you see the real girl
The pain you cause her
Will only hurt her more

This shield she wears
Is the only protection she has
The wall she has built
Is breaking down

So she tightens her shoes…
