Separate Ways

by Dee   Jun 5, 2005

You were once my lover, and we were the best of friends
We were like a circle, no beginning and no end

I believe that you and I were a product of life's fate
We knew our love was meant to be after our first date

We spent years together, inseparable and complete
The love we were feeling would never fall to defeat

We built our love with materials no storm could ever weather
We knew that no matter what, we would always be together

But one day as we were walking down the path of life
We reached the crossroads in our journey, unknowing of the strife

I walked a little to the left and you went to the right
Not knowing that our travels were taking us further out of sight

Our lives kept on taking us in a different direction
But everyday I thought of you and all of your affection

I spent many years toying with your heart
Even though we weren't together, we were never far apart

Years went by and life went on but you were always there for me
Your love a little distant but willing to listen to my needs

Eleven years have passed, since the day we met
Now I sit here hopelessly
feeling the regret

It has been a year since I last heard your voice
Wishing I could turn back time
to make a different choice

For the first time in eleven years you no longer answer my call
You are not there to catch me when I fall

What am I supposed to do for the rest of my life
I want to be your lover, your best friend and your wife

The nights are so lonely and the days seem so long
I know how much I need you
How could I have been so wrong

Your memory fills my mind, each and every day
How could I have given up
Why did I walk away

They say that if you love someone,
you should set it free
So if you really love me
please come back to me

I am longing for your love
I keep the dream alive
For a meeting at the crossroads
in another place in time
