Memories Of Freedom

by Heather Atchley   Oct 17, 2003

As I stand by my window
And look across the fields
I see all God has made
Everything that this earth yields
But there’s more beyond
More than my eyes can see
A country, a gift, a freedom
To be who I want to be
A country where so many
Died to pave the way
For all that we have now
For all we have today
We can freely worship
And speak our own mind
So much written in history
So much for us to find
The battles, the wars
Each fought with bravery
Building this country
Making each person free.
The flag still stands tall
So many stories to tell
Of every gallant life it’s seen
Of every man that fell.
So, when we stand before it
Salute it for those men
For this country, for our freedom
For us now and for those then.
