Innocent

The depth of the sky
Stares down at me.
Blank, emotionless.
Not a gray cloud in sight.

Leaves lay on the ground.
Lifeless.
A reminder of that day.
A reminder of the sorrow.

He was walking home.
Not a worry on his mind.
The afternoon sky
Stared blankly back at him.

He heard someone call his name.
Jordan.
He turned around
But there was no one to be found.

Suddenly, a dark silhouette
Steps out of the darkness.
Gun in hand.
Pointed at Jordan.

A familiar face
Stepped out of the shadows.
His best friend.
His face contorted in anger.

"How dare you?
I thought I could trust you."
Confused and terrorized,
Jordan asks what this is about.

"Don't lie to me.
I know you slept with her"
Confusion swept upon Jordan.
"What are you talking about?"

"Don't play these games with me"
He pointed the gun at me.
"Tell her to go home"
Terror spread through my body.

Frozen in terror.
Frozen in shock.
Unable to move,
I stood by Jordan's side.

Jordan looked at me
And motioned for me to go home.
Unsure what to do.
I stood, frozen in terror.

"Baby, please, go home.
This is between him and I.
I don't want you to get hurt.
Please, go back home."

As I turned to leave
He whispered to me
"Baby, I want you to know
That I would never cheat on you.
I love you."

Tears stream down my face
As I run to call for help.
Yet, I know that the paramedics will be too late.
He'll be gone by then...

A gunshot echoes in the night.
I scream to God
And fall to the ground.
Powerless.

Memories of that night
Flood my soul.
Unable to fight the tears,
I cry until I no longer can.

Murdered innocent,
Without being proved guilty.
Murdered by his best friend.
Murdered for something he didn't do.
Murdered.
