It's funny what our youth does to us, isn't it? So much poetry comes from a dark place when we are young. I guess a lot of what I write is still quite dark but when I was young, it was the only way I could write; I didn't really have anything else to say. A tortured lot, we writers!

I agree with what you say! I never had much else to say, either.
Sometimes I look back on my poems and think how I sounded like such a whiny, depressed kid...
Then I remember that writing use to be my only vice during rough times. Now I'm just thankful for age and the ability to turn those dark memories into learning experiences, helping me become a stronger individual.
