An Unexpected Disaster

------------------------------------------

Her name was Lena and she was free
A spirit that roamed the world we see
On her way to a trip to Spain
She was to visit her aunt and cousin again

Sitting by the window
Next to no one she knew
She saw many beautiful sights
As the plane reached different heights

Despite it all she had a thought
She liked her aunt but she had a flaw
Her materialism overshadowed her love
Her personality was dislikeable as a result

Money always fresh on her aunt's mind
It probably would even guide her blind
She was losing humility piece by piece
While Lena continued to live life vibrantly

She loved doing any dangerous stunt
As long as she was having fun
Never caring about life and death
Unique in her ways and careless

Until an unexpected disaster came
Shattering her world with death and pain
Before she even set foot outside the airport
Her aunt and cousin were ghastly murdered

Lena could only stare shockingly
They died in front of her unwillingly
The enemy shot her aunt twice that day
And for her cousin they did the same

And so Lena ran as fast as she could
Boarded the first plane home that afternoon
At home her parents lay dead on the floor
And finally her heart completely broke

She ran again but even faster
With all the strength she could muster
She went to the last place she could
Straight to her grandfathers not far from home

Lena hurriedly told what had happened that day
Constantly choking on what she would say
Four people she loved, murdered before her eyes
Her soul yearned for comfort but she kept it inside

Five years passed in quiet suffering
Pushing her hurt and tears inwardly
The free spirit she was once died away
Becoming cold and dark each passing day

Lena thought hope had died forever
Until she received a mysterious letter
Slid right through the crack in her door
As she read the name she sank to the floor

A letter lost through time
A letter that brought tears to her eyes
Could this letter offer her closure?
Maybe even restore her hope further?

The letter said....

Lena our only child
We must probably be dead
But please don't drag on your dread
We need you to move on
Remember you still have our love
Wake from the sorrows you have
Our deaths should not derail your path
Reach places that you've never reached
From the polar north to the warm beach
Lena, you want to know the meaning of life
It's to do all that you can and simply die
Without getting caught up in its strife
Please you must at least try
Because you father and I
We love you, Lena. Till the end of time

For the first moment in many years
Lena conquered all her fears
Produced her first genuine smile
Like when she was a child

It shows how an unexpected disaster can change your life
