Beleaguered by my constraints
I sit implacably among the shadows,
The former jubilance of my youth
Has long been quenched.
Giant elms, once conflagrant
With the inferno of wild fires,
Now exude a chaotic nature,
Tenebrous among their sea of ashes.
Parched and decrepit I lie,
Hollow eyes illuminating pale features.
My only solace lies in the tentative nature
Of these limbs which form a semblance
Along the murky waters of the lake.
Sumptuously it forms a barrier,
Though parried by the bristly sand.
It is tangible, I conclude,
That this arduous test of life,
Once rudimentary in my thoughts,
Is only the beginning.
