Why cant they understand
That me I'm only a teen
I go to school see my friends
Come home eat and do it again
But parents what they don't realize
Is yeah they were a kid too
But they don't remember as well as me and you
They don't realize that us kids need to socialize
Us kids need our space
And all i want to know is why cant they
Why cant they understand us
Why cant they feel like we do
Why cant they listen and let us talk
To here the things we know and do
Why cant they see we are ourselves and know one else
Why cant they be cool
And why do they care so much
If their afraid to let us go
If their afraid to let us fall
Then what I say to them is don't be afraid
Don't be afraid to let us go
And don't be afraid to let us fall
Don't be afraid that we'll lose control
Because we know something you parents don't know
We know how to handle peer pressure
But some of us give in
For those who don't I look up to thee
And those who fall learn from me
Yeah I've made some mistakes
And yeah I've done some wrong
But growing up with the friends I have had shown me
whats right and whats wrong
Whats right is to be a leader
Whats wrong is to be a follower
So as you read this poem think to yourself
Do I want to be like the person
Who struggles to get by
Because she argued her way all her life
Or do I want to be myself
To show everyone who put me down and said I couldn't do it
To show them I did succeed
To show them it is possible
If only you just believe
