Understanding A Cutter

by Beautifully Broken..*   Jun 17, 2005

It takes alot of courage,
For us to cut ourselves.
And you all say that we are cowards.
When what we're really doing is trying to help ourselves.

I'm sorry our lives aren't perfect,
Like we lead them to be.
And I'm not just trying to get you off my back,
I'm trying to get you to understand others like me.

No matter what our reasons,
We don't all feel the same,
We're just trying to find out how
to take this pain away.

Swallowing our emotions
only works for a short while.
Eventually we go numb,
can't even fake a smile.

And saying I'm okay
just comes out of our mouths.
And we really yearn to stop,
but we just don't know how.

It's like after you see the blood,
You get sort of attached.
And watching it pour out of your body...well it makes you somewhat relaxed

So please stop asking questions,
like how does it feel good?
Because I'd really love to tell you,
If only I could.

I'd really like to be normal,
But being normal I cannot.
Because this knife and this razor,
Well it's all that I've got.

So we all have our problems in which we must deal.
And us cutters just can't help it in the different ways we heal.

So please understand that as cutters,
we ask for you to be kind.
Because we don't need anymore problems.
Because happiness is all we yearn to find.

I know how you feel... People you asking you "How could you do that to yourself" and "Don't you know that hurts?"... I have OCD, and I wash my hands to the point where that my hands are all pinkish-redish, and they bleed and crack and hurt. People ask me "Why do you do it?" Not the same exact situation, but I DO know what its like in a sense. Hope everything goes your way... Awesome poem by the way ;D
