Today

by Julie   Jun 19, 2005

She walks alone, down her path of despair
Reaching out towards the air
The road is long, she’s lost her way
She stumbles again, like yesterday

Her hands are cold, they’re turning blue
She knows just what she has to do
Clouds roll in, and tears roll down
She lifts her head up from the ground

Mist surrounds her weathered face
Swirling her soul, yet leaving no trace
She tries to stand up, but her body is weak
She tries to call out, but finds she can’t speak

The tears just won’t stop, they’re drowning her sight
She fears this to be, the end of her fight
Her ears, they are burnt, from the voices inside
She runs from herself, but there’s nowhere to hide

And the mist keeps on swirling, outside and in
She yearns to be free from the pain deep within
But the harder she tries, the harder she falls
The stronger her might, the more desperate her calls

The air is so damp, upon her tight throat
She looks at the shadows, the words that they wrote
Letters carefully engraved, and sealed with a kiss
Swirled in a circle, upon her thin wrists

And no one will know, just what they engraved
Its her burden alone, for what she has braved
And this burden she carries, along the lost path
Is full of her unspoken, anger and wrath

She dares to look up…testing her sight
But this time, above her, she sees a new light
Blue eyes in the distance, chasing the dark
Bringing the light, back into her heart

He holds out his hand, and their hands intertwine
Her tears are caressed, with kisses sublime
She stands with his help, and together they start
To walk the long path, from her bleeding heart

And now when she falls, she hopes he’ll be there
No longer will she have to, reach to the air
For he is now with her, he holds her hopes high
She looks up above; stars light up the sky

Together they walk, down the path of despair
Reaching together to find what is there
Ahead of them….along the way
For yesterday’s gone and today’s a new day
