Society

by Terri   Jun 21, 2005

What I write is true,
and thats what makes me sad
for the people I meet
is what society has created.

I see it in their eyes,
they tell me I don't belong,
to go back where I came from
but if they only knew.

United States is my birth place
I came from here too,
just because I don't look American
doesn't mean I'm not one of you too.

I walk down the road
and hear so many names
'chink' and 'communist',
they hurt the most

I wish the world was blind
so we can only trust what we know
and that'll be what we hear.

Voices are powerful
and so are human emotions,
but somewhere along the way
it was forgotten by people who wanted it most.

I beg of you all reading
to look at how you act to certain people
you may not know it
but you can be hurting another.

I was born in America
so i am an American
but with every word thrown at me
makes me wish that i wasn't part of the land of the so-called free.

Everyone has opinions and ideas
and America was where you can share
but when I express myself, with the way i was brought up
I always seem to get pushed back down.

So this land is losing it's soul
and I weep for it every night,
what society has done
was bring the devil in our home.
