Blank Paper

by Lushed   Jun 24, 2005

A part of me.
Is who you are.
I never thought
we'd lose it.
didn't think we'd slip so far.

I know you too well.
It's turned into a curse.
for i cannot bear to hear that laugh
knowing what it means.
it's the laugh that you force
around strangers, unknown.
Not the laugh i once knew.
Replaced by pleasantries,
and a smile so sickly untrue.

All of the letters
written back and forth
are replaced now by blank paper.
crisp, flimsy and unused.

Children know so little,
when they mumble out the phrase:
"Best friends forever!
Forever till the end!
Always be together!"
All the love that the intend.

What a cynic they have made me
with broken promises to mend.
innocence lost in turbulence,
Your loathsome absence i cant comprehend.
