Daddy don't lie

by Amy Jo   Jun 24, 2005

There was a young girl
Who had a story to tell
Never saw the pain outside
Just the hurt in her eyes

She walked alone to school
Kept her head down to earth
Had dreams for her hopes
Wished she was never born

How can love save us all
When she lives in sorrow
Goes home late after three
Always a sight to see

Her mother died an age ago
The girls father just let go
The girl, her mom's spitting image
Killed her father to see her face

He'd ignore her to no end
Didn't want to be a friend
Didn't even know who she was
All because she looked like his wife

She waited her whole life
For him to notice her uniqueness
But so much, quietness
He never saw her there

She gave up and never smiled
A very, very troubled child
Everyone scared to hurt her
Daddy won't pay no attention

A little boy moves in next door
Curious, she wants to know more
He comes over, smiles and says hi
She has no feeling to cry

He comes over everyday
Nothing happy does her dad say
Their like two peas in a pod
Finally, a bit of happy she is

He grows up and so does she
Eighteen out of school and free
Move away far away
Daddy doesn't know what to say

He looks down and says farewell
He can't speak and tell
The truth she doesn't know
A real father he couldn't show

because he was her step dad
her mom never said a thing
Thought he'd be glad to have her
But he never conquered his fear

She's gone now with the boy next door
always wanting to know more
daddy please don't lie
Little girl please don't cry
