The night something happened

On this night something happened.
There are blue and red lights flashing.
I hear voices calling my name.
The cries of the one I love saying something but I can’t hear.
I try to move but I find pain in my body,
and the cold hard pavement under my body.
Men that I don’t know swarm around me with bags.
They put me on a bed.
Then next thing I saw was total blackness,
It felt like I was moving.
When the feeling stopped,
I saw a light and some one burst out into tears.
The warm saltiness of them falling down on my face.
As he says in between sniffles,
I am so sorry I should have let you drive.

On the news on this night it says that there was a car wreck.
The couple were coming home from a party.
The driver had had a lot to drink that night.
The passenger had been thrown from the car,
She died on the road that night.
