Message to the sensual fool

by Michael D Nalley   Jun 26, 2005

Are you so blind, you cannot see the beauty in my view?
Are your ears so deaf you cannot hear her say, I love you?
Has your touch grown so cold, you can’t feel her warmth, which can’t be beat?
Are your lips so numb you cannot even taste her lips, which are sweet?
Are you having trouble remembering her perfumed scent?
Oh the fragrant flowers of springtime have gone where she went

Are all of your senses so very confused?
Like the senses of the women you have used
You don’t know which ones you did love,
Or which ones you’ve really abused
And you don’t feel very much above
Or better than the ones you’ve accused

Like a confused child in a dime store?
Finds what he needs, but always wants more
To ease his confusion leaves, and shuts the door
Only to find himself in a new dime store

Well you can follow your pretty rainbows wherever they lead
But remember rainbows are illusions, they can’t fill a need
Go on and dream, and follow your dreams for heaven’s sake
But remember your dreams will end when you are awake

You know if five is a half, and ten is complete
A person alone is as a foot is to feet
Lord, have mercy on us who travel on crutches
We sometimes lack speed to escape Satan’s clutches

This rule does not condemn the priest or nun,
Whose, senses are blest by the Holy One

But those of us tightly bound to body and earth
We are sometimes called to bare the burden of birth
And our lord rewards us with joy
When we receive a girl or boy
If only my words could awaken just one
I’d consider this poem a job well done
