An Illusion Of Me

by Sarah Ann   Jun 27, 2005

There are doors that are open…
That I cannot see

There are many people dying…
But I only bleed

There are families of sorrow…
Yet all I do is cry

There are many teen suicides…
And we all wonder why

There are those so crippled…
And yet I still fall

There are those unfortunate…
But I have it all

There are eyes that are open…
And yet they are blind

There are people who dream…
But I stick to my mind

There are so many places…
But I just cannot run

There are situations worse…
Yet I still feel outdone

There are many doors open…
So why can’t I just see

There are mirrors reflecting…
An illusion of me

I wrote this for a class...So I know it is not great. It is a style I never wrote. Thank you for reading.

I actually liked it a lot. There were a few places where I was slightly worried that there wasn't a real contradiction set up, for example:

    "There are situations worse…
    Yet I still feel outdone"

Well if there are situation that are worse, then you were outdone, so it wouldn't be "Yet I still feel outdone" but rather "And I still feel outdone", or something... but whatever, that isn't necessarily very important.

I actually liked the couplet stanzas, they punctuated the rhythm for me.
