His eyes

by undying blusher   Jun 29, 2005

His eyes almost black
As his fist came closer
And closer
She heard the smack
His face became darker
And darker
After his eyes were no longer filled with rage
He came closer
And closer again
His eyes now slightly filled with sympathy
He said he’s sorry
He’s sorry
And he loves her
He loves her dearly
He said she knew what she did
She said she’s sorry
She’s sorry
And tried to explain
She felt the throbbing on her cheek
The surge of pang around her eye
She tried to concentrate on blinking
Bleary-eyed
She could barely think
In his arms she still felt so weak
With his hand on her knee
He drove her home
Quietly, safely
Watching her so carefully
Just the same
Closer and closer he came
As always
Just this way
Now here they are the next day
His face now glowing
No guilt showing
And his deep green eyes are back to glittering
Like nothing wrong was ever happening
He knew she wouldn’t say a thing
As he smiled and put on her finger a silver promise ring
Oh, how she wishes those green eyes were forever glittering
And how she wishes she were still listening but all she does
Is look down to her hand
At this ring
Which is somehow comforting
Although it comes from the very same thing
That keeps on bringing
This pain
Now she knows this is not just a dream
His face is framed
Now who is the one to blame?
Do his eyes show even a trace of shame?
She already knows he’s felt this pain.
