Dreams and Nightmares

by Julie   Jun 29, 2005

Dreams surround us all, my love
Within each breath we take
They descend on us soft as a dove
And expand what we may make

They fall on us like summer rain
Seeping down into our core
And there they distract from the pain
Of the awful days of forever and more

But some ascend from the depths of hell
The nightmares of a winter cold
Some of a place in you, as well
Crippled, devastated, torn, and old

And within the shadows of your sleep
A cry is heard, a tiny moan
And while you think it's your's to keep
It's there that the darkness is sown

And that orphaned child's tears
That was burned into your own eyes
Are witnesses to all your fears
And to all the lies

And so the next time you close your eyes
Think on this, my dear
Here in your sleep, however much you despise
I'll always be there for you to fear
