Our World

by Hpfan36   Jul 3, 2005

Punctured and torn
Sliced to pieces and frayed
Stranded along the side of a road
Vanquished until only a strand remains
Poisoned to a sickly state
There is nothing true and pure left
There is nothing strong and willing
Nothing at all

There is nothing here for you
This bleak, empty space is all that lay before you
You have surrendered yourself
Given everything to this menacing darkness
You have satisfied it
Pathetic and useless
A poor tortured and tattered soul
You have become what you despised the most
A mirror image of all the sins in the world
Corrupt in every way
Screwed over by media
Screwed over by bias lies
Screwed over by porn and drugs
Screwed over by a false image of humanity
A loss of values and beliefs
A loss of courageous, well-read, caring people

Once people could live in happiness and bliss
There were no fears
Children could play outside for hours at a time
They could ventures off at nights
No worries
None at all
Until darkness devoured the world like a sick joke

No longer could children leave their parent's sight
For fear that the devil would take them away
No longer could a boy act like what he is at school
For fear that Ritalin would be forced down his throat
No longer could a girl walk alone at the dead of night
For fear a perv would swoop down and rape her
No longer could a grandmother enjoy an evening stroll in the city
For fear a drunk may mug her and rob her purse
No longer could a soldier return back home with his held high
For fear anti-war leftists would strip him of his pride and criticize
No longer could a child freely scavenge the Internet
For fear a porn site would pop up and spoil his mind

I watch as you gaze into the mirror at yourself
I wonder...
Why did you let this crepuscule liquidate you?

Our world...
Now it may be too late
No turning back
I'm afraid this last strand of light and hope
Is now no more
