A Dreadful Night

by Lance Hardy   Jul 4, 2005

Thoughts of vengeance
Oh hear my forsaken cry
I’ve lost an eternity for you
And you make me suffer

I’m dressed in the apparel
Of a passed man in his tomb
The horror it is to live
As one who has already died

There can be no hope
She took it all away, so quickly
She plunged a dagger through me
And slowly twisted the hilt

At first, there was only one other
I forgave, for she seemed so sincere
But alas, she was untrue
For there were more than two

I’d been fooled, I’d been tricked
Third times the charm they say
I smashed and I thrashed
All that I held so dear

Just as I had nothing left
Nothing to live or die for
And as I sank into my deepest hole
I allowed it all to rush out

The energy, the passion
The hunger, the lust
Everything exploded and it showed
Black blood flowed through my veins

So I marched, off to battle
Through a heavy storm of rain and torment
To finish the war that she began
And I laughed as the end neared

Drenched, I stood at her door
I knocked strongly, and waited eagerly
Our time had finally come
I would unite her with regret

As she opened the door
All the cruelty I had planned out
Vanished as I gazed at her
She emanated an aura of pure beauty

I was invited into her lover’s home
There may have been some hope left
Or perhaps pity
Either way, I met him there

A god is his own right
More than any woman could hope for
And he had taken my love away
Yet, I for some reason forgave him

With a kind, warm heart
He embraced me with a towel
And I became friendly with him
As friendly as a madman can be

I had realized she was happy
With this lion who bared a golden mane
And I felt happy for her as well
As I slit her throat with my rapier

Feelings overwhelmed me
It was as if I had killed an immortal
And my blood boiled thickly
As I gazed upon another

I turned away to stare through a window
Out at the bright moon, a true wonder
And through my eyes of blue fire
Everything changed to crimson red

hahaha, well that was an invigorating and entertaining story. I certainly enjoyed all the blood and whatnot. I am getting the feeling, however, that there is a deeper meaning, regardless of whether you meant it or not. There certainly is a lot of thematic elements concerning betrayal and revenge, which is always good, but I can't tell if there is a lesson to be learned, which would be neat too. Anyhow, who knows what I'm talking about.

This poem is quite... dark? Man, hopefully this doesn't refllect on anything going on in your life right now. I ummm.... liked, well... at least you can tell a good story.
