Why Can't I Say No

by Tom Cheriyan   Jul 4, 2005

Why can’t I say no
Is it I don’t know,
How to form the letters in my mouth
And spit it out in a flow?

Or is it that I am not aware
Of things that I cannot do?
Or perhaps have no sense of time, or any schedule?

Or is it that I don’t want to let down
People, when they ask?
Or is it because I get some pride,
On doing a requested task?

Maybe my perception of capability lacks some clarity,
My sense of duty to the world, takes over sanity.
Maybe I am meant to be like this,
In the centre of this confusion.

May be I need few lessons in
Tai-chi or assertive action,
Or is it something deeper still,
Of ego or self worth.
May be it’s just my childhood,
Saying ‘yes’ to look good.
