The Me I Let Show

by Ashley Dulin   Jul 6, 2005

You think you know me
But it's hard to make you see
The me you think you know
Is merely the me I let show
I keep the true me bottled up
And keep it all shut up
Only allowing a certain few
To know something new
I'm not at all what you think
Yes I tend to drink
But the me you think you know
Is merely the me I let show
I hide behind the full bookshelf
And yet in front of the shadow of my true self
Perhaps if one day
You would decide to say,
'What are you thinking?'
Instead of linking
Within the group of dirty looks
Never hidden from me behind these books
You look at me in disgust as if you must
Hide within the group your in
Your group never molding to let another in
Perhaps if you merely took the chance
And held a conversation
You might feel a new sensation
When you look at me
You might be able to see
That the me you see
Is not the only me I might be
Though I dress a certain way
It is far different for the words I think and say
So before you look at me with all your disgust
And mistrust
Sit and hold a deep conversation
So then you might perhaps feel that knowing sensation
And be able to see
The real and true me
