When the Last leaf Falls

by Tom Swart   Jul 6, 2005

The words of my love take flight
And like the leaves in fall
They start their journey from my branches
to play and dance with the wind.
They swirl and tumble,
So truely happy to be set free.

The canopy of my heart is filled with
My many thoughts of you.
They have grown here ,
Resting lightly upon my limbs.
They provided the breath for my soul
And their shade cooled the roots of my desires.

Now they leave me as each breaks free
And find their way to the ground of life.
Where they shall gather with
The thoughts and loves of other poets.
And Together with the hands of time
They will become new earth
For the trees of love and our plants of hope.

As my shadow grows smaller I smile for
I feel the sunlight playing with me.
It finds parts of me that have
Been covered for so long with your love.
The places where my thoughts slept
Are now becoming lonely and bare.

As the late summer of my life feels
The first frost of autumn, it works to
Shake free all of my prose for you.
My happy moments and passions no longer
Have their binding as they break away from me.
But the love that has lived so strong for you
Shall remain with me
long after the last leaf falls.

This is so beautiful and touching from the beginning to the end. Every stanza is filled with an amount of emotions expressed greatly. I could really feel evrything that you described here within each heartfelt line. I like the ending a lot, it is captivating and effective, and it sums up the message of the whole piece excellently. Amazing and enjoyable read.

I really like how you've compared your love to nature. The imagery is beautiful, and I love it. Thank you for such a wonderful piece; and also, thank you for the comment on my work as well.
