Untitled 5

Perhaps it's because I led a misguided youth

Or perhaps it was because my mother fell to my father's hand

I witnessed one too many things

That made love and lust seem so bland.

You shared with me stories

ones that moved and changed my world

You showed me that one could love,

and cure the sickness that swallowed a little girl.

Your father was an abuser,

of his substances and his family...

But for some reason you grew stronger than him,

And for some reason, this has helped me.

You took the hand [my hand]

That refused everyone else's touch

You strengthened a weakened heart,

You served as my guardian, my crutch.

I called you a friend for awhile,

But the love we shared was too strong,

I know as long as you're holding my hand,

We shall never, ever go wrong.

----

Thanks Luke [my boyfriend] for being here for me...it's hard to grow without a father, but you've showed me that love prevails, even in the hearts of the deprived.

Beautiful. I love this one. Nicely spaced out and worded. And lovely message about love and what is possible...
