War

She sent him off
with hugs and kisses
With silent prayers
And hopeful wishes
They took him away
Her baby boy
And gave him a real gun
Not like his old toy
They told him to "suck it up"
And to be a "real man"
So he grinned and beared it
While to the battlefeilds he ran
The loud "BANGS" in his ears
The tears on his face
The man in front of him falls
He must step up to take his place
With fear in his eyes
He hears the last "BOOM"
As he falls to the ground
His family's doom
Back at home they say
"This is for all he has done"
As they hand her a medal
In place of her son

I wrote this for my brother, Sgt. David Poole - USMC, who was killed in Iraq on July 4th 2005. Independence day will never have the same meaning to me anymore.

I know how you feel one of mine and my dad's best friends just died from a roadside bomb and i use to love to play basketball and I can't anymore because our friend had taught me to play and since then I can't see myself ever playing again but I have to get to there day by day because I need to get back to the way I was and just forget about his death and try to play again!
