Darkness Falls

The sky was filled with smoke, a dense black
All around was noise, bursts of thunder
My mind was a mess, hardly intact
What just happened, I could only wonder

The air was still ringing from the shot
Never stopped crying since I saw him fall
His life poured out, anguished not
Sirens in the distance, someone had made the call

His life flashed before my eyes
All those memories lost with his smile
Too much pain when someone dies
What I would give again, to see him for awhile

All these casualties left my laughter on my tongue
Why does darkness always fall, when we are so young?
