I Hear the Sound

by shadow walker   Jul 9, 2005

I hear the sound of bells ringing in the distance,
the slow deep toll of death’s chime.
One more is gone,
one more lost,
one more by death’s hand snatched and claimed.

I hear the sound of mourning echoing in the night,
the sad wail of unprepared departure.
One more is gone,
one more lost,
one more by death’s hand snatched and claimed.

I hear the sound of lightning cracking on the horizon,
the quick strike of death’s whip.
One more is gone,
one more lost,
one more by death’s hand snatched and claimed.

I hear the sound of the clock grinding away in my head,
the ticktock of my wasting life.
One more is gone,
one more lost,
one more by death’s hand snatched and claimed.

I hear the sound of laughter bellowing in the distance,
the deep throaty sound of death’s amusement.
One more is gone,
one more lost,
one more by death’s hand snatched and claimed.

I hear the sound of silence sitting in my ear,
the last resound of my life’s clock.
I am the one gone,
I am one lost,
I by death’s hand snatched and claimed.
